BS in Chemistry, Western New Mexico University\nPhD in Chemistry, Colorado State University<\/address>My Ph.D. research involved the design, synthesis, and characterization of polymers that release the therapeutic molecule nitric oxide (NO). Materials with this function have attracted interest due to the antithrombotic, antibacterial, and wound-healing properties of NO. In my current research, I am examining the chemical attributes of uniquely resilient polymers derived from plant sources. This endeavor supports a collaborative effort to produce durable materials via<\/i> synthetic biology. I\u2019m Liszt Madruga, a PhD visiting scholar from Brazil. Since my undergraduate degree I have interest in organic and biological chemistry. I started my academic life on a lab of technology of surfactants with emphasis in drilling fluids operations and after started to do research in a lab of synthesis and application of Polymers, and also a microbiology and parasite lab, where I was able for the first time to start a research on biomaterials applied on antimicrobial activity. Now I\u2019m researching synthesis to increase biopolymers biological properties and application on materials like nanofibers and PEM that could enhance biocompatibility, antimicrobial activity and cell growth.
