Dr. Anura P Jayasumana


Professor Anura Jayasumana has been associated with the graduate and undergraduate programs in Computer Engineering at Colorado State University since their inception. He joined the department in January 1985, and currently also holds a joint appointment in the Department of Computer Science. Dr. Jayasumana's areas of expertise include Applications and Protocols for Next Generation Internet, Sensor Networks, Optical Networks, Performance Modeling, and Testing and Testable Design of VLSI. He has served as the Principal Investigator/Co-PI of several DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), NSF (National Science Foundation), and industry funded projects related to networking. He is currently a member of NSF Engineering Research Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere. He has supervised over 50 M.S. and Ph.D. theses, and taught courses ranging from a freshmen course on Logic Design, to graduate courses in Internet Engineering, Microprocessors, and VLSI Design Automation. He holds two patents, and is the co-author of "FDDI and FDDI-II: Architecture, Protocols and Performance,' (Artec House, 1994). His professional activities include service as Conference Chair (ITCom 2001: Technologies, Protocols and Services for Next Generation Internet), General Chair ( 2nd IEEE Int. Workshop on IDDQ Testing, 1996), and member editorial board of IEEE Network (1992-98). Anura received the Ph.D. (1985) and M.S. (1982) degrees in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University, and B.Sc. (First Class Honours) in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from University of Sri Lanka, Moratuwa. He has served extensively as a consultant to industry, ranging from startups to Fortune 100 companies. Awards and recognitions he has received include CSU Deans Council Award for Academic Excellence (1999), the Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award from American Electronics Association (1990), Michigan State University HSP Award for Academic Excellence (1984), Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement at Michigan State University (1982,1983), and the Award for the best student in Electrical Engineering at University of Sri Lanka (1978). He is a member of Phi-Kappa-Phi, Eta-Kappa-Nu, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
