WEF Wastewater Challenge
The WEF Wastewater Challenge involves the full design and fabrication of a working wastewater treatment system usually made out of everyday household materials. The wastewater recepie simulates heavy contamination due to human or accidental releases. Historically the competition was under the ASCE Water from Your Kitchen and Beyond but as of 2010 the competition became under direction of the Water Environment Federation. This competition is perfect for undergraduates who want a hands on experience in environmental engineering from doing water quality tests to designing and building an actual working wastewater treatment system.
2010 Colorado State University Design Report
The WEFTEC Student Design Competition really challenges our students to analyze exhisting water treatment plants and perform a feasibility study on the current operations. Re-design of the plants are commonly needed and student teams are given the task to design, pick out vendors, analyze systems and develop a detailed design report . The design report requires hydraulic, wastewater & water quality analysis and complete process description.
