Improving Our Environment
Environmental challenges facing our planet require innovation and expertise to devise solutions. The College of Engineering offers students with a passion to protect the environment an opportunity to learn across disciplines from the sharpest minds in their respective fields.
Electrical and computer engineers work with atmospheric scientists to build and analyze climate models, improving our understanding of climate change and other global atmospheric and natural patterns. Chemical and mechanical engineers explore renewable alternatives to replace fossil fuels and reduce urban air pollution, and study "green" materials to benefit environmental health. Civil and environmental engineers design water treatment solutions and systems to protect rivers and lakes and provide safe drinking water.
The College of Engineering is also helping to build Colorado State University's reputation as a leader among sustainable institutions of higher education. Research and student projects support school-wide efforts to reduce water use, convert university facilities vehicles to run on biofuels, and improve recycling – even as the campus and student body grows.
