NASEM Selects Hussam Mahmoud for the 2021-23 New Voices Cohort

On July 10, 2021, Hussam Mahmoud was notified by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine that he was selected for the 2021-23 New Voices Cohort. This was a very competitive process and 22 New Voices members out of nearly 300 applications were selected.

According to NAESM, “New Voices in Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (SEM), is engaging an initial diverse group of outstanding early-career SEM leaders to provide new perspectives on issues and public communication modes for the National Academies, and to help identify and try out activities designed to expand the diversity of expertise that is engaged in the convening and advisory functions of the National Academies.” Members of the Cohort will join different NASEM committees that are working on topics related to each members expertise. The Cohort will meet 3 times per year, participate in member committees and join engagements with National Academies leadership.
