The study of groundwater is critically tied to fields including but not limited to: water resources management; environmental engineering; surface hydrology; natural resources and energy.

Development of groundwater resources dates back to man’s earliest recorded history. In the modern world of expanding populations, climate change, renewable energy, and sustainability, groundwater is an ever more important resource and offers promising career opportunities.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering provides courses and research opportunities for students pursuing groundwater-focused M.S. and Ph.D degrees. Current courses and research build upon more than 50-years of excellence at Colorado State University in the field. Programs also support undergraduate and graduate students working in fields that require a rigorous understanding of groundwater. Overall, our vision is excellence in education of the next generation of scientist and engineers working in fields that involve groundwater.
