NIST Renews $20 Million Partnership with Community Resilience Center

Drs. John van de Lindt and Bruce Ellingwood, co-directors of the Department’s Center of Excellence for Risk-Based Community Resilience Planning along with Associate Directors, Paolo Gardoni of the University of Illinois-Urbana and Dan Cox of Oregon State University, have announced the renewal of a $20 million partnership with the National Institute of Standards and Technology to provide a center designed to improve community resilience planning for another five years.

Over the past five years of existence, in collaboration with 12 partner universities, the Center created the first quantitative assessment of the disparate physical, social and economic factors necessary to prepare for, withstand and recover natural hazards.  The next five years will be dedicated to putting the science to work for society.
