Ryan Bailey receives NSF Early Career Award

Ryan Bailey received a five-year, $500,000 Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) award from the National Science Foundation (NSF), to investigate the origination of buildup-inducing salt.  Ryan is looking at whether the salt could be coming from rainstorms and flash floods happening far upstream from the river basins, lakes, and reservoirs being used to irrigate crop fields. Using an area along the Arkansas River Basin in southeastern Colorado as a test site, where irrigation has been happening for more than 100 years, Bailey plans to measure water flow and salt concentration of rainfall and runoff before, during, and after storm events.
