PRELAB:
Come to the lab with the circuit design completed on
paper. The instructor will sign-off on the prelab.10%
Hardware and Demo:
Demonstration of your hardware circuits during your
group meeting: 25%.
Memo:
Your report should consist of the following:
- A front page in the Banana Electronics
memo format (refer to Preparing the Memo ) ;
- A truth table for the seven output
functions (attached as Figure 1) 5%;
- Printout of Karnaugh maps for the seven
output functions, with looping (Figure 2--this figure will
probably require two pages. The table has to be printed.
Scanned copy of handwritten data will not be accepted.
You can do the looping with shapes like ovals etc or shade the
regions in K-map) 10%;
- Minimum SOP expressions for the seven
output functions. Optional: Include the NOR expressions for
the output functions if you have implemented the NOR circuit.
(Figure 3) 10%.
- Complete 7-segment circuit designs
(Figure 4) 5%
- A timing waveform simulations for both
circuits, showing the digits 0-9 (Figure 5) and outputs
a-to-g. This simulation will show the correct behavior of your
design. 10%.
The
text of your memo should include
- Introductory Paragraph: state the
task and constraints for the seven-segment display 5%;
- Analysis Paragraph: in one single
paragraph, say in general what you did to obtain output
expressions for the multiple outputs, and design the
circuit. In this paragraph, present Figures 1-3 5%;
- Results Paragraph: present Figure 4
5%;
- Conclusions Paragraph: give a
conclusion, stating whether you were successful in completing
the task in both simulation and hardware. In
addition to the regular content of your Conclusions, state the
gate count of your design 5%
- Simply attach an additional sheet entitled
"Appendix: Approach for Handling the Accidental Entry of an
Invalid Binary Number," where you briefly and succinctly
report your work on the special assignment 5%.
Instructor
discretion: 5%.
