Project 4:
Grading Policy and What to Include in your
Report
Weight
distribution:
10% Prelab
30% Hardware
circuits and demo
30% Required
technical items in memo
30% Memo itself
5% Neatness bonus
Each of the figures in the memo has to include a caption which
includes the Figure number, e.g.,
"Figure 12: Photograph of Banana Electronic Employees, Jan.
2007." You will not receive the points for the figure if
the caption is missing.
PRELAB:
Come to
the lab with the circuit design completed on paper. The
instructor will sign-off on the prelab.
DEMO:
Demonstration
of your hardware circuits during your group meeting: 30%.
MEMO:
Your report should consist of the
following:
- a front page in the Banana
Electronics memo format (refer to Preparing
the Memo );
- a truth table for the Full
Adder (attached as Figure 1) 5%
- a derivation of the minimum
SOP expression for Full-Adder outputs. 5%
- a schematic drawing of the
Full-Adder (Figure 2) 5%
- a bit-slice of
adder-subtractor circuit (Figure 3) 5%
- design of the 8-bit
adder/subtractor (Figure 4) 5%
- a timing diagram for the
adder/subtractor circuit (Figure 5) 5%
Note: Since there are too many different combinations of
inputs to do a timing diagram, restrict yourself to
eight combinations that you tested, including at least one
with overflow.
The text of your memo should include
- First Introductory
Paragraph: state the task and constraints for adder/
subtractor 5%
- Second Introductory
Paragraph: state the task and constraints for the
full-adder 5%
- Analysis Paragraph:
in a single paragraph, describe how you came up with the
design 5%
- Second Results
Paragraph: present Figures 1-5 5%
- Conclusions
Paragraph: give a conclusion, stating whether you were
successful in completing each task in both simulation
and hardware
5%
