Fort Collins and its environs offer mile after mile of dedicated
bike paths. Below are photos taken along some of these miles.
The Spring Creek Trail
The pictures shown in this set were taken on a ride
that began as the Spring Creek Trail enters the south
west corner of Rolland Moore Park. Heading north and east
the trail is a pleasant ride through parks and other natural
areas with wildlife and flora abounding.
The Poudre Trail
The Spring Creek Trail eventually
meets the Poudre Trail that heads west and north along the
Cache la Poudre River. Along this stretch, the trail
affords nice views of the river and the
Front Range, including Long's Peak in nearby Rocky Mountain
National Park, and passes along side a beautiful golf course.
Old Town and Colorado State Campus
Just before College Avenue the you can leave the trail and bike
through Old Town and into the campus of Colorado State University.
In Old Town, one can
rest and enjoy some of Fort Collins' famous microbrews. Just past
Old Town, it is a pleasant ride to the campus, through the Oval,
past the "Water Fountain" which commemorates
the University's contribution to water resources, and on to
the flower garden. Clearly, one look at the many bike racks
throughout the campus is evidence of the
"bike-friendly" atmosphere of the university.
Back to the Poudre Trail
Once the trail passes under College Avenue it ducts
under a railway bridge and follows the river another five miles
to LaPorte, Colorado. The trail currently ends at Vern's,
a nice place to take a break before turning around and heading
back.
The Cathy Fromme Prairie Trail
The pictures in this next section were taken on the Cathy Fromme Prairie
Trail located on south-west side of Fort Collins.
The Poudre Corridor Trail
Just across I25 from Fort Collins, a 12 mile trail connects
Windsor with Greeley. This is part of the Poudre Corridor Trail,
and it will eventually connect with the Poudre trail in
Fort Collins to make a continuous trail from Laporte to
Greeley. Below are pictures taken along this 12 mile
trail.
