other information I began my journey into nursing over 20 years ago, when I decided to become a Lamaze instructor after the birth of my second daughter. First I graduated with my ADN and shortly after that completed my BSN. During that time, I also worked as a labor and delivery RN. I graduated from the nurse-midwifery (masters degree) program at the University of Utah in 1989. Then I began an exciting journey into the world of nurse-midwifery. I founded the first effective system for low-income prenatal care in Montrose, CO and also served as a maternal-child clinic director for the University of Texas Medical Branch. I went on to serve as a nurse consultant in quality improvement for the National Nurse-Family Partnership prior to my current employment with this program locally at Boulder Public Health. I also currently own and operate Empower! Health, Life and Business coaching practice (with specialized services for health professionals and women). My main office is in Lyons, CO and I provide distance services. I am employed as an instructor for the University of Phoenix. I edit and publish Empower! newsletter (www.harttweb.com/empower) a free, national publication focusing on women's health and positive psychology. I have two grown daughters (both officers in the US military) and I enjoy writing, photography and hiking. I also love small town life in my hometown of Lyons. I am grateful for the opportunity to teach for the University of Phoenix because the flexibility allows me to live the type of lifestyle where I can thrive.
