Collection of Perishable Data on Woodframe Residential Structures in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina

Case Study #8

Name Assigned: Residential neighborhood

Address: Unknown

Coordinates: N30d26’47.7”/W089d05’03.9”

Structure Description: The neighborhood was built in 1999.

Failure Description: In general, there was very little damage in this area. One isolated structure had one piece of OSB uplift in the roof perimeter. OSB was stapled to the roof with staples perpendicular to the panel edge. The staple was positioned such that the edge distance was very minimal. It was unclear if both legs of the staple hit the framing. On the adjacent piece of OSB, one leg of the staple did not hit the panel.
