Case Study #22
Name Assigned: Tire Kingdom Coordinates: N30d27’29.1”/W088d53’36.0” Structure Description: This commercial structure had plywood parapet and plywood screwed to light gage steel studs. Edge spacing was around 12” oc. The back side of the parapet was light gage steel. Failure Description: Although photo shows “stepped” plywood sheathing, we believe this was due to plywood loss. Plywood was on the ground and appeared to be from the façade. Finish was EIFS. A cement back board can be seen at the very top of the parapet in some of the slides. Two possible failure modes could have occurred. 1.) Parapet could have lost light gage steel in back, and plywood blew off the front. In some of the photos, small pieces of plywood were placed on top of existing plywood. The small pieces of angled plywood appear to be a post damage repair to prevent water infiltration in the wall cavity. Additional Information: |
