Case Study #12
Name Assigned: Newer subdivision, garage door blow in Address: Unknown Coordinates: N30d27’26.8”/W089d04’23.9” Structure Description: This was a subdivision that was in the process of being built. Most of the structures in this division were just completed, but on two of them, foundations were being poured. There were very few occupants. There was no opportunity to witness framing details. In one case a box of vinyl siding was noted as “DADE COUNTY APPROVED”. Columns on the houses were properly attached to concrete slabs. Footing details had 3 #4 bars in each footing, 2’ deep x 16” wide. Rebar was placed to tie into brick veneer. There were three different siding types- vinyl siding, cement based, and brick. There were blue tarps on the roofs. Failure Description: The vinyl siding in this neighborhood did exceptionally well, but all siding types performed quite well. The only damages in this neighborhood were shingle damage, soffit damage, and vinyl rain gutter damage. Additional Information: Neighborhoods (build in the 1970s) directly to the north and directly to the south experienced a lot of damage. |
