Case Study #11
Name Assigned: Older neighborhood, similar to Case Studies #9 and #10 Address: Unknown Coordinates: N30d27’21.8”/089d04’58.5” Structure Description: This neighborhood was built around 1970. Failure Description: One house lost a lot of roof sheathing. It appeared that architectural details around roof vents consisted of “scooping” air into roof, hence roof pressurization. This is one case where the panel edge nailing appeared to be close to 6” oc. However, there was a very large rake, on the order of 24”, which also led to the uplift. It’s likely that following more modern roof sheathing recommendations would improve the performance. Some plywood deterioration was also observed. Some of the framing members appeared to have been subjected to either ant or termite infestation. Additional Information: |
