Dr. David G. Alciatore, PE ("Dr. Dave")
Professional Biography


Dr. David G. Alciatore is a Professional Engineer and an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University (CSU), where he has been since 1991.  Dr. Dave, as his students know him, is a dedicated teacher and has received numerous awards for his contributions, including the university-wide Board of Governors "Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award."  His major research, consulting, and teaching interests include the physics and engineering of pool/billiards and bowling equipment; high-speed video motion analysis, modeling and simulation of dynamic systems, mechatronic system design, and engineering education.  He is co-author of the textbook Introduction to Mechatronics and Measurement Systems (2001, 2004, 2007, 2012) and author of the book The Illustrated Principles of Pool and Billiards (2004), the DVD series The Video Encyclopedia of Pool Shots (2010), the DVD series The Video Encyclopedia of Pool Practice (2012), and the DVD High-speed Video Magic (2007).  He also writes a monthly column for Billiards Digest magazine (since 2004) dealing with the physics and engineering aspects of the game.

Dr. Alciatore has a PhD (1990) and an MS (1987) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BS (1986) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Orleans.  He has been an active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) since 1984 and has served on many ASME committees, boards, and task forces.  He served as an ASME Distinguished Lecturer (2004-2007), and is a Fellow of the society (since 2007).
