Women & Minorities in Engineering Program
WMEP is here to help students to be successful in the College of Engineering.
The WMEP is dedicated to maintaining an inclusive and supportive environment for all of our engineering students. We are building a strong community within the College of Engineering that embraces the creative ideas that minority groups contribute to engineering research and projects. In doing so, we come closer to the goal of finding the best solutions for global challenges.
Services
Tutoring
Small group tutoring services are provided for engineering courses. Other tutoring resources are provided by the College of Engineering in math and engineering at the Engineering Academic Village. Also, the College of Natural Science provides tutors for math, chemistry, and physics at the Science and Mathematics Tutorial Hall.
Advising
Academic guidance, information on career opportunities, and academic resources are provided through one-on-one interaction between WMEP staff and students.
Computer Lab
WMEP computers are available for students to use during normal business hours and evenings upon request. The computer center has seven HP computers linked to the internet and loaded with standard engineering software.
Study Center
A space within the WMEP office is set up for study sessions and student group meetings. The Study Center has reference materials, textbooks, course files with sample exercises and tests, a dry-erase board, and calculators that may be checked out daily.
Scholarship Information
A broad list of potential scholarships available to engineering students is housed in the WMEP office. Many lucrative scholarships exist that are not widely publicized and are available to both undergraduate and graduate students.
K-12 Outreach
Saturday Morning Engineering Club
WMEP’s Saturday Morning Engineering Club, sponsored by the Xcel Energy Foundation, is a hands-on program through which girls in the 4th-6th grades learn about engineering principles and participate in a math enrichment class. The instructors and mentors are all female engineering and science students from Colorado State University. The program lasts for three Saturdays each semester.
To participate this spring (April 17-May 1), download and return this form.
Summer Engineering Camps for High School Students
The Summer Engineering Camps for High School Students introduce Colorado students to engineering concepts, while providing teamwork and leadership opportunities in the course of a
hands-on lab-based math and science immersion experience. Living in dormitories and eating in dining halls, students learn about campus life and attend seminars on the college application and financial aid application processes, demystifying the college experience for students whose families may never have experienced university life.
By introducing students to the vibrant, creative field of engineering, we can inspire them to be among the most productive, successful citizens in our country. Our programs are rigorous and challenging, and our high expectations mean that students work very hard during their week at CSU. Ultimately, by successfully navigating the challenges of our program, participants find themselves more confident in their own abilities, having solved difficult problems by working in diverse teams, and leave CSU at the end of their session with a rich understanding of the field of engineering and their ability to thrive in it.
Registration is open for this summer's sessions! Download this form to participate.
$500 covers room, board, and all expenses for the week-long session. A limited number of scholarships are made possible by ![]()
