Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department
Specialization: Robust and Learning Control/Clean Energy Systems
Dr. Peter M. Young hails from the United Kingdom and received his education at Oxford University, the University of Florida, and the California Institute of Technology, where he earned a Ph.D. He is currently a consultant for Woodward Governor Company and Spirae, Inc, as well as a director for both the Dynamic Systems and Controls Research Laboratory and the Systems and Controls Teaching Laboratory. His research interests include mathematical system theory, the development of optimal controller synthesis methodologies for high performance controller design, and the development of strategies for the analysis and design of robust learning controllers. He also works on applications of these tools to optimization of algal growth for biodiesel production, wind turbine control, and the development of smart grids and associated technologies for clean energy generation and distribution.
