The CSU Crowdfunding platform

Charge is the Colorado State University crowdfunding platform. The overall goal with this initiative is to build a more technologically advanced way of giving while creating a more intimate and personal experience for the supporters of CSU. Charge offers donors an opportunity to support projects and programs at CSU and gives CSU a new way to communicate the impact of gifts at CSU.

Crowdfunding has become a powerful and effective tool of fundraising for individuals, businesses, and nonprofits all across the world. Forbes estimates that crowdfunding platforms raised $2.8 billion in 2012, up from $1.5 billion in 2011. At the collegiate level, there are only a handful of U.S. universities who have adopted crowdfunding platforms into their current online development efforts, although it is estimated that a significant number of universities have plans to move into the crowdfunding space. Colorado State University is the first university in the state of Colorado to have its own crowdfunding platform.

The platform is currently in beta test mode. The test of this new platform began in May 2013 with the CSU College of Business and the Venture Accelerator Program. Following the completion of this initial campaign, the interdisciplinary School of Biomedical Engineering will conduct the second part of the beta test. This portion of the test is expected to run in the fall of 2013. It is the ultimate goal to complete the testing phase in the fall and be able to roll out the platform for usage by other colleges, departments, and units from across CSU in December 2013.

The Charge project is a culmination of almost a year of planning. This program has been built in partnership with Community Funded, LLC, and its "Empowered By" product. Community Funded is a Fort Collins-based company that was founded by CSU alumni.

All monies raised through Charge will be directed to a gift fund held by the Colorado State University Foundation, a 501(c)(3), which benefits the respective program or project you support. Please consult your tax adviser to determine the tax-deductibility of your gift.
