History and Purpose of Pi Tau Sigma
The Tau Psi chapter was established at Colorado State University on March 8th, 1961. The first faculty advisor was Dr. Robert D. Haberstroh who was the driving force in establishing this chapter. Colorado State Tau Psi has helped improve not just the College of Engineering, but the entire university. Tau Psi has been heavily involved with E-Days (originally Engineers' Days), and has bestowed awards on both students and teachers (such as the "coveted" Purple Shaft). Past projects have included working with local high school students for science competitions and re-organizing the Morrison Library. Through tours and one-on-one discussions, Pi Tau Sigma members also help interested students and parents learn more about the ME discipline here at Colorado State.
This isn't just about sitting around with another bullet on your resume. Pi Tau Sigma is an organization with a goal, and this is our official mission statement: The object of this organization shall be to foster the high ideals of the engineering profession, to stimulate interest in coordinated departmental activities, to promote the mutual professional welfare of its members, and to develop in students of mechanical engineering the attributes necessary for effective leadership and the assumption of the responsibilities of a citizen in a democracy.
Membership in Pi Tau Sigma is by invitation. Those ranked in the top 1/4 of the Junior class and those ranked in the top 1/3 of the Senior class will receive an invitation to join.
