Saint Lucia is a small island (only 14 miles wide and 27 miles long!) located in the Caribbean that suffers from frequent flooding. This copious rain is destroying the homes of island locals. In January 2017, our club traveled to the island to establish a relationship with the people of St. Lucia and lay the groundwork for a project to mitigate the damages due to flooding. We are working with the St. Lucian government and the Water Resources Management Agency (WRMA), who are interested in using the data from existing rain gauges to model their floods and design bridges that can withstand the floods rather than being washed away with every intense rainfall.
