MEL Technology Transfer

The Mechanical Engineering Department at Colorado State University is commited to bettering our world and lives, one project at a time. Our Materials Engineering Laboratory continues to bridge the gap between research and business, through cutting edge research and strategic partnerships. Their recent success includes one of Colorado State University's most successful spinoffs, Abound Solar. The research is being commercialized by Abound Solar. Abound Solar Inc - Abound.com -, has secured a large investment, and grown to 175 full-time employees. The commercial production is expected in 2009. This technical success, with support from the U.S. Department of Energy and approximately $150 million of private investment, is responsible for buiding a fully automated, state-of-the-art solar manufacturing facility in Longmont.
