- Geometric and solid modeling: formal multi-dimensional languages as syntactic and semantic representations of the topology and geometry of physical solids; parametric, variational, and optimal geometry methods for constraint-based design of complex 3D shape, including issues of topology and constraint-management
- Engineering Design Theory and Methodology: automata-models of design using output languages of shape and input languages of constraint; principles of reverse engineering shape, shape optimization
- Engineering education: freshman engineering education goals and objectives; history of engineering; computing in education
