How to Apply
- GS 1 or GS F1
The GS 1 (or GS F1 for International Students) must be completed online along with a $50 application fee. Your statement of purpose should NOT be included in the space provided on the GS 1 online, please see the Department Application for statement of purpose guidelines. International applicants must also complete the GS 3F form and include financial support information. Please send this form directly to the department, it will be forwarded to the International Programs Office upon admission. - GRE and TOEFL scores
GRE scores are required for all applicants. In general, the Department looks for a total score above 1200 for the verbal and quantitative sections and a 4.5 or 600 on the analytical section. The University requires a minimum TOEFL score of 213 (550 on the paper exam, 80 on the iBT) for all International applicants. These scores must be submitted directly from ETS to Colorado State University, University code 4075, Department code 1502. - Transcripts
Two official transcripts from ALL previous undergraduate and graduate work are required. Please send transcripts directly to the ME Department. Applicants should have a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or First Class standing. - Letters of Recommendation
Applicants to the ME graduate program can use the above form for the 3 required recommendations and/or have 3 references write letters. For students recently finished with their undergraduate or prior graduate work, 2 letters should come from academic sources. - Statement of Purpose
Applicants will be required to upload a statement of purpose and submit it with Part II of the online application. Please attach the Department Application to your online application or follow the guidelines for the statement of purpose found on the last page of the Department Application in the statement you submit with your online application. - Professional Resume
Applicants will be required to upload a resume and submit it with Part II of the online application.
Admissions Criteria
The admissions decision is based on a comprehensive assessment of the applicant's intellectual potential, involving a review of
- The applicant's undergraduate education and record (and MS education and record, if applicable),
- Past research experience (including senior thesis/project),
- The research interests formulated by the applicant in their statement of purpose and their programmatic fit with existing research areas in the department, and
- Standardized test scores.
Students without a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering are encouraged to apply to the program. Depending on their academic background, students may be required to take additional course work or be admitted as a second bachelor's degree students. PLEASE NOTE: This does not apply to students who have a Master of Science degree. Department Application Deadlines
- Fall Admission: Initial financial aid offers will be made on applications completed by January 15. All applications must be complete by April 1 to be considered for admission and any remaining financial aid. Distance degree students must complete applications by July 1.
- Spring Admission: Students applying for aid for Spring semester must have their application complete by August 1. All applications must be complete by September 1. Distance degree students must complete applications by November 1.
- Summer Admission: Distance degree students must complete applications by April 1.
