Combined Bachelor’s and Master’s Program

Track III Admission to the Master’s Program

CSU undergraduate engineering students with strong scholarly and research interests may apply for admission to the combined bachelor’s/master’s degree program to begin their graduate program during their junior year and to provide flexibility in the scheduling and completion of upper division undergraduate requirements along with the graduate course requirements for the master’s degree.

Program

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers an accelerated BS/MS or ME program (track III), the program is designed for completion in 5 years.

The program is open to exceptional CSU engineering undergraduate students who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 through the completion of at least 75 credit hours of University study and grades of B or better in MECH 307, MECH 324, and MECH 342. To remain in the program, a student must maintain at least a 3.25 GPA. A student may elect out of this accelerated program at anytime, without any adverse effects on his or her undergraduate status.

The BS degree will be awarded upon completion of all undergraduate requirements, and the MS or ME degree will be awarded upon completion of all graduate requirements.

Program of Study

Students who are admitted to the BS/Master’s program will be assigned faculty advisors who are likely to continue as their academic and/or thesis advisors in the Graduate Program.

In his or her senior year, the student may take advanced placement for as many as 9 credits of graduate course work provided each regular course credit has been earned with a grade of B or better. This course work must be at the 500 level and can include regular courses taken for Mechanical Engineering senior technical elective credit, as well as mathematics and science courses.

For Track III admissions students in combined bachelor’s/master’s degree programs, the GS 6 Form must be filled before the end of the student’s first semester after admissions to the graduate school. All course work is listed on the GS 6 and approved by the student’s academic/research advisor.

Interested students should review the graduate research opportunities and the Guidelines for Graduate Study.
