CSU Vehicle Education Program

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University (Fort Collins campus) invites applications for one Postdoctoral Fellowship to pursue work on electric/hybrid/fuel cell vehicles as well as related instructional coursework development, delivery and evaluation. This position is for 12 months with possibility to extend to 3 years, and offers an opportunity to take part in an active program of research related to a DOE ARRA grant awarded to Dr. Thomas Bradley for the development of a Transportation Electrification Education Program.

Background:

The Colorado State University Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks to hire a post-graduate researcher. This position would support the US Department of Energy’s grant to Colorado State University entitled: CSU Ventures Advanced Electric Drive Vehicle Education Program to Colorado State University.  The overall objective of the program is to establish a public/private partnership to accelerate the market introduction and the penetration of advanced electric drive vehicles through the development of focused educational opportunities. This public/private partnership will accomplish its objectives through: 1) the creation of educational and outreach materials for secondary schools and the community, 2) the establishment of training programs for PHEV service technicians, and emergency responder and safety training, and 3) the enhancing of engineering degree programs, creation of certificate programs and professional courses. Together, these efforts will advance development of PHEVs/EVs, their components, and associated systems engineering including support systems, safety systems and refueling and recharging infrastructures.  This position will specifically support the university and professional education components of the program. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in an engineering discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with electric/hybrid/fuel cell vehicles
  • Previous scholarly or industrial experience in the fields of automotive engineering, systems engineering, power electronics, simulation or other similar fields
  • Previous coursework development, delivery and evaluation experience in the professional/university instructional environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be a member of the Bradley research group and will be responsible for:

  • Actively participating in the development and delivery of university and professional level coursework related to the engineering and analysis of electric drive vehicles.
  • Measuring, analyzing, and publishing education research results regarding the outcomes of the university and professional education programs.
  • Engaging in relevant scholarly research and publication in partnership with project and research partners including CSU-Ventures, Georgia Institute of Technology, US DOE, Ricardo, EPRI and others. 
  • Supervision of graduate students performing relevant research.
