Support Programs
Together, industry and the college can build and strengthen programs in order to meet the needs of the engineering profession.

We welcome industry insight regarding needs in the marketplace. We have partnered with many companies and organizations on projects to build new programs and strengthen existing programs. Recent examples are varied:
Professorships to build programs
Woodward Governor pledged $1 million to support a systems engineering endowed professorship in the College of Engineering. They partnered with the college to develop a program that will benefit the University, the community, and businesses. Systems engineering addresses complex systems in such areas as aerospace, energy, environment, natural resources, and bioscience/health. High-tech Industry officials have said they struggle to find qualified systems engineers in the state. Read more
An award to encourage an industry-desired skill
While discussing skills that employers look for in graduates, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) unanimously agreed that effective communication skills were a critical need. Members of the Board worked with the Denver Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the local IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society to fund support for an annual Best Paper Contest. Student papers are judged by the IAB and the IEEE for exceptional technical content, organization, development, clarity, style, and grammar.
Equipment to further research
Flow International Corporation, the inventor of abrasive waterjet technology, is led by President and CEO Stephen Light, a Colorado State 1968 graduate in mechanical engineering. A waterjet cutter, a system used to cut things ranging from the mirrors in the Hubble Space telescope to airplane wings to stone counter tops, was gifted to the University. Read about the incredible impact this gift of one cutter has made on millions of people.
