University Distinguished Professor Jorge Rocca

Jorge Rocca Honored for Pioneering X-Ray Laser Research

The American Physical Society named University Distinguished Professor Jorge Rocca the recipient of the 2011 Arthur L. Schawlow Prize in Laser Science for his work on applications for compact X-ray lasers. Rocca directs the NSF Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) Engineering Research Center at CSU, which has made significant advances in the use of EUV lasers for microscopy, interferometry, and materials studies.

CSU Professors Land National Science Foundation Grant for Photovoltaic Efficiency Research

Mechanical engineering professor W. S. Sampath and physics professor Jim Sites have received $2.5 million in combined funding from a National Science Foundation (NSF) Accelerating Innovation Research grant and CSU technology spinoff Abound Solar. The grant will fund research into improving solar panel manufacturing efficiency, with the target of bringing costs below $1 per watt.

Popular Science Names CSU Engines Lab One of Top Labs in the U.S.

CSU's Engines & Energy Conversion Lab (EECL) was listed among the 25 "most awesome college labs" in the nation by Popular Science magazine. The magazine cited EECL's hands-on learning approach and real-world impact on environmental problems as reasons for the recognition. This is the second consecutive year that EECL has been included in Popular Science's annual college lab rankings.
