The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Colorado State University is seeking an electrical and/or computer engineer to provide long-term consistent, professional support of our instructional laboratories (circuits, electronics, and digital design). This is a full-time, 12 month administrative professional position reporting to the Manager of Operations, and will collaborate with faculty, graduate teaching assistants, and undergraduate students to design, implement, troubleshoot, maintain, and sustain our undergraduate laboratories.

The department has 25 faculty and 3 instructors and offers an ABET accredited degree along with MS, ME and PhD degrees in a wide range of research areas.

Position Requirements
1. Prior experience in using and managing a wide variety of lab instrument in electrical and/or computer engineering or closely related discipline. BS or advanced degree preferred.
2. Preference given to candidates with direct experience in circuit, electronic, and computer design and test.
3. Practicing knowledge of LabView, MatLab, Simulink and circuit design tools (such as Cadence design tools) highly desirable.
4. Experience with normal office software (spreadsheets, email, word processing, etc.).

5. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with faculty and students for advising and trouble shooting.


Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will:
1. evaluate status of our undergraduate laboratories – apparatus, experiments, infrastructure;
2. install and calibrate new apparatus, experiments, design and control software, and lab infrastructure;
3. maintain and upgrade/replace laboratory equipment and support infrastructure as necessary;
4. supervise student lab technicians and web developers;
5. participate in our ABET undergraduate electrical and computer engineering accreditation;
6. write, debug, and implement control software (eg. Labview);
7. instruct students in laboratory safety, processes, hardware, software and experimental process;
8. coordinate equipment inventory;

9. select, evaluate, install and maintain software and computers in the department; and

10. develop written laboratory practices, protocols and lab manuals.

The Center for Contaminant Hydrology in Civil and Environmental Engineering Laboratory Technician

The Center for Contaminant Hydrology (CCH) (www.engr.colostate.edu/CCH/)  in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University (CSU) has an opening for a full-time laboratory technician.  The ideal candidate will be a motivated, mechanically inclined individual with an ability to learn intricate operation of analytical equipment.  Additionally, for up to 20% of the time, the candidate will assist with CCH administrative tasks.  The position involves use, handling, and potential exposure to hazardous materials.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Operation and maintenance of laboratory analytical equipment, including gas chromatography and ion chromatography.
  • Travelling to field sites (primarily local, some outside Colorado) for project work including system installations and sample collection.
  • Providing technical assistance for laboratory projects, including treatability studies and MS and PhD research.
  • Research, development, and implementation of improved methods for conducting laboratory analyses.
  • Maintenance of a safe and clean laboratory workspace.
  • Assistance in writing proposals and project reports.
  • Assistance in non-technical administrative tasks for CCH management such as tracking budgets and expenses, submitting time sheets, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of BS degree in chemistry completed by start date.
  • Experience in analytical chemistry
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to travel within the U.S. (up to 20%) to conduct field work
  • Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on spreadsheets
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. by start date

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced in gas and ion chromatography analysis
  • Prior related work experience
  • 40 hr. OSHA training (29 CFR 1910.120)
  • Experience in use, handling, or potential exposure to hazardous materials

This salaried position with benefits will start in the mid $30K-range and will be funded through research and gift funds.  Presently CCH has funds to cover the position for one year.  Subsequent extensions of the position will be dependent on the availability of funds and the candidate’s ability to contribute to the Center’s success.
