Computer Support - PDAs

ENS supports any PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) that is on the list of CSU approved mobile devices. This list changes often, and is available on the telecommunications web site.

Setup for Windows Mobile Device with Engineering Email

  1. Turn on the device, Click on "Start" and select "Messaging.
  2. Click on "Menu" at the bottom right of the screen and select "Tools."
  3. Click on "New Account."
  4. Enter your First.Last@colostate.edu email address. This assumes that the email alias is pointing to your Engineering email address. (To check, go to eid.colostate.edu and click the "Change E-mail Address" link on the left. Login with your eID username and password.)
  5. Uncheck "Try to get e-mail settings automatically from the Internet" and click next.

Troubleshooting Windows Mobile Device

I can't sent to emails to addresses outside of CSU.

  • Call Telecom (970) 491-5881 and have them add your email address(*) to their exception list for sending from smtp.colostate.edu.
(*) This is the email address that is entered into the device during the email setup (see step 4 above)

Setting up Windows Mobile Device with Exchange

  • Follow the steps on the ACNS webpage for setting up the device with Exchange.

Set Up Blackberry for Email

  1. Go to www.sprint.blackberry.com or www.sprint.com/webmailsetup and create an account. Note: The setup can be done from the device only if Internet has been setup on the device prior to configuring email. In most cases it is easier to use a computer to configure the Blackberry for email.
  2. Once logged on, under "Existing Email Account" click the button to setup account. Enter your Engineering email address, username, and password Then click Submit.
  3. The next page will ask you what type of email account you have. Select the first option to say that you use an Internet Service Provider Email client, then click Submit.
  4. On the next page, enter the email server, "mail.engr.colostate.edu" and make sure that 'Leave messages on mail server' is ticked. Then click on Submit.
  5. The next page will show that your email account has been successfully setup to work with your Blackberry Handheld. From now on a copy of everything that you receive in your inbox will be sent the Blackberry.

Troubleshooting Blackberry

I have set up my Blackberry but have not received any emails yet.

  • Please note that it can take a while after the initial set up before your emails start to arrive at the Blackberry. Please be patient, as this may take up to an hour or two and is in the control of Sprint. Once the first email has arrived on your Blackberry the rest should come through fairly quickly.
  • If the client is not able to connect to the Internet Log into the website (www.sprint.blackberry.com) and under Settings -> Service Books, click "Send Service Books."
  • If the device is still not connecting then contact the Software cellar (1-7625) or Becky Tyler in Telecomm (1-5619) for further troubleshooting.
