Examples of ps and kill Commands

# To view all process owned by you in the current UNIX terminal window

ps

# To see all running processes on the system

ps -ef

# To find all your running processes

ps -ef | egrep <your_login>

# To kill a process owned by you (you can only kill your own processes)

kill <PID>  # You get the PID from the second field in the ps -ef output

# To kill a process that won't die

kill -9 <PID>  # The -9 flag says “Kill first, ask questions later”
