StarOffice Install

The first time you try to run StarOffice it will need to load in some configuration files on to your home directory space. Here is the installation procedure to follow:

  • At the welcome installation screen, just click “Next”.
  • You will then be shown an "Important Information" screen, just click “Next”.
  • This will bring up the Licence Agreement. (Make sure to read it. Everybody does you know.) Click “Accept” to continue.
  • The program will then ask you for User Data (see below). Ignore it. You don't need to fill anything out here, just click “Next”.
  • The "Select Installation Type" box will appear. Make sure “Standard Workstation Installation” is selected, and then click “Next”.
  • The directory listed here will be correct. There is no need to change anything here, just click “Next”.
  • Click “Complete” in the next dialog box labeled "Start Copying".
  • In the "Java Setup" box, just click "OK". Java is already installed.
  • Ignore the warning about the Adabas database, and click “Ok”.
  • After this screen, there are a few more “Ok” dialogs and then finally a “Finish” button. After the installation is completed, the install window will disappear. You will then need to click the StarOffice icon again to start the program. You only need to go through the installation procedure once.

Enjoy this full featured Office productivity suite from Sun Microsystems. This software is FREE (http://www.sun.com/products/staroffice) and does have a windows port, so you can load it on to your PC at home. It also can read most Microsoft Office documents.
