Computer Labs & Classrooms
Lab & Classroom Security
Space within the Engineering facilities is limited and so we have found it necessary to restrict access to the labs to only those students who are currently enrolled in Engineering classes. There are 24 hour card readers on the doors to the Engineering and Glover buildings, and most ENS labs. Card access to all other labs are restricted to certain hours of the day. There should be signs next to the lab's doors with information on when the lab will be accessible.
You are able to view your current doorlock access permissions to the Engineering computer labs by using the ENS login tool. Just enter your Engineering username and password to view your quota and access information.
If your card is not working, these solutions might help
- Are you currently enrolled in an Engineering course? Only Engineering students have access to the Engineering buildings and labs
- Is the card reader flashing one red light? If so, it could not read your card. Try swiping it again from bottom to top and make sure the magnetic strip is on the correct side.
- Did you recently enroll? Wait for 24 hours for your database information to be forwarded to our computers and then try again.
- Did you get a new student ID? Your card's magnetic code may not be in our database. Contact the ENS employees mentioned below
- Is your card's magnetic strip worn out? If so you will either need to get a new card or use a different card that has a magnetic strip we could use. Contact the ENS employees mentioned below
If you have difficulty with your card, please contact the ENS Help Desk.
General information about using the cards in the card readers
- If the reader is displaying two flashing green lights (the card was accepted) and the door won't open, push on the door and then pull. Some of the latches are a bit sticky.
- There is a reader on the west door of the Engineering building and on the east door of the Glover building. They both allow after-hours access to their respective buildings.
- Please PLEASE PLEASE don't prop the doors open! The readers are there to help keep engineering equipment in the engineering labs and out of unscrupulous people's homes. If you decide to prop the doors open, you'll be denied access to the engineering systems.
