Graduate Application Information

Thank you for your interest in our graduate program in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Colorado State University. If your interest is in Computer Science, please visit the Computer Science Department. The following information is intended to help you prepare your application for graduate study. It is intended to answer the most frequently asked questions during this process.

Minimum requirements for admission

Please read this material in its entirety - chances are if you have a question it will be answered here .

Application Deadlines: We strongly encourage you to submit your application by:
For the Fall term: February 1
For the Spring term: September 1

While applications to the fall term are accepted until March 1, prospective students are *strongly * encouraged to apply by *February 1*. Applications are reviewed by the department as they are received and earlier submission may enhance student opportunities for financial aid (GRA) support. The department evaluates applications year-round. While most admitted students begin their coursework and studies in the fall, the department allows starting in the spring as an alternative. Prospective students are encouraged to explore the research expertise of the department and contact individual faculty to discuss GRA opportunities prior to submission of their application to our graduate program. Please be advised that the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department does not offer graduate admission for the Summer term.

Application Procedures for the ECE Department

Applicants to the ECE graduate program need to implicitly follow the instructions that are specific to the ECE Department,
because these procedures are specific to the ECE Department and supersede other instructions for applying.  To ensure proper processing of your application, be sure to follow the steps listed below.

  1. To apply, create an account at:  http://wsnet.colostate.edu/apply/Create.aspx and complete the application.
  2. Upon completing the application, email Karen Ungerer at ecegradinfo@engr.colostate.edu.  This is when you will receive your CSU ID number and instructions on submitting documents electronically to the ECE department.
  3. Original documents will be requested only if you have been recommended for admission to the program.

The Department cannot accommodate all applicants who meet minimum standards for admission and reserves the right to select individuals for admission on the basis of merit and to maximize the potential for individual accomplishments. In general, notification of application decisions will NOT be sent until AFTER the appropriate application deadline (for example after February 1 for Fall admissions). When a decision has been reached on your application, you will be notified by email.
