Chandra Elected Fellow of the American Meteorological Society
Dr. V. Chandrasekar (Chandra), professor of electrical and computer engineering, was elected a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society. The grade of Fellow is one of the Society’s most prestigious honors bestowed upon members who have made outstanding contributions to the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences during a substantial period of years. Only two-tenths of one percent of the membership is approved as Fellow each year.
Chandra, who has made pioneering contributions in the area of Polarimetric Radar Observations of the Atmosphere, is a co-principal investigator of the CSU-CHILL radar facility, one of the most advanced meteorological radar systems in the world. He also serves as the deputy director of the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere, a multi-disciplinary center created to revolutionize weather sensing technology and ensure earlier and more accurate forecasts of hazardous weather events. Chandra is also a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
