Dr. Edwin Chong, professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been elected to the Board of Governors for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Control Systems Society (CSS). Chong’s three-year term began on January 1, 2006.
"This is a well deserved honor," says Tony Maciejewski, ECE department head. "Edwin was elected to this position because of his exceptional credentials and experience in the field, and we are thrilled he will be representing our department on the board."
Founded in l954, IEEE CSS is a scientific, engineering, and professional organization dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practice of systems and control in engineering. Today, the Society has more than 10,000 members around the world. Chong has been a member of IEEE CSS since 1989.
In 2004, Chong was named a Fellow of the IEEE for his contributions to communication networks and discrete event systems. He was the founding chairman of the IEEE CSS Technical Committee on Discrete Event Systems, served on the CSS Conference Editorial Board, and was a CSS Distinguished Lecturer. He is the co-author of the best-selling book: An Introduction to Optimization.
