06/26/02 Electrical and Computer Engineering Loses Emeritus Faculty Member Tom Brubaker
Thomas Allen Brubaker, emeritus faculty member of the
Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, passed away as
a result of complications related to leukemia on Friday, June 21, 2002
at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena, Montana.
Dr. Brubaker earned his undergraduate and master's degrees
at the University of Wyoming, and received his doctoral degree from
the University of Arizona in Tucson. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling
career as a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Colorado State. His
distinguished teaching and research career at Colorado State included
many accomplishments. In addition to his work in electrical engineering,
he had extensive collaborations with CIRA, including co-pioneering the
CSU Satellite Earth Station and the advanced dynamic RAM image processing
systems (with Intel) in the late 70's. These research programs supported
many student and faculty publications, theses and dissertations.
In 1986, Dr. Brubaker was one of a six-member faculty
team that wrote the winning proposal for the DoD Center for Geosciences
at CSU. The Center continues and has brought in more than $30M in research.
He also served a term as Deputy Director of CIRA and was among the group
of first Fellows of CIRA for his important contributions to multidisciplinary
research. After 27 years of dedicated teaching and research, Dr. Brubaker
retired with his wife Merelyn to Helena in 1997. He will be deeply missed
by his former students, colleagues and friends.
