Takamitsu Ito
Takamitsu Ito’s research focuses on the development of mathematical and numerical models of physical and biogeochemical processes to study global climate and biogeochemical cycles. One of Dr. Ito’s current projects, which is funded by NASA, centers on the Southern Ocean surrounding Antarctica. About 20-30 percent of CO2 from industrial processes, such as burning oil and coals from fossil fuels, goes into the ocean. Dr. Ito is modeling the circulation patterns and CO2 uptake in the Southern Ocean region to further our understanding of the relationship between the atmosphere and the ocean.
