The College of Engineering has an extensive scholarship program and in combination with its engineering departments, offers about 150 scholarships per year to undergraduate students, worth more than $330,000. This represents a little more than 10% of the student population. The scholarships are annual and renewable. In addition, many engineering students receive scholarships from the University. The College of Engineering supplements the University Scholarship programs.

Freshmen who have been accepted to the College of Engineering are automatically considered for all available engineering scholarships for which they meet the requirements as specified by the sponsor. There is no need to fill out an application form. Information provided as part of the application to Colorado State University is used to make the selection. In the process of selecting students, the scholarship committee specifically looks at the strength of the academic high school record (courses completed, cumulative GPA and class rank) and results from the standardized tests (SAT and/or ACT).

Continuing students can apply for all the annual scholarships for which they meet the requirements by filling out an online scholarship application. The online application is available on RamWeb in January and February for scholarship consideration for the following academic year. To file an application for scholarships, a student should have at least a 3.0 GPA. In the process of selecting students, the scholarship committee specifically looks at grades earned at Colorado State University and involvement in extra-curricular activities.

Renewable scholarships can range up to $5,000 per year. Annual scholarships range from $500 to $4,000 per year. College of Engineering scholarships can be combined with University scholarships.

The College provides about 55 renewable scholarships per year for a total amount of $175,000. In addition there are about 35 annual scholarships per year for a total amount of $60,000.

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Students in the Department of Civil Engineering can be considered for scholarships at the college or departmental level.

A number of renewable and annual scholarships are available specifically to students in the Department of Civil Engineering. The application process follows the same format as described above for the College of Engineering. No separate application is needed.

Renewable scholarships in the Department of Civil Engineering are at $2,500. Annual scholarships range from $500 to $2,500. In general, departmental scholarships cannot be combined with College of Engineering scholarships. Students are considered for the highest paying scholarship for which they are qualified, regardless of the source (college versus department).

The Department presently provides three renewable scholarships per year for a total amount of $7,500. In addition there are about 33 annual scholarships per year for a total of $49,000.

Other Scholarship Opportunities

The Colorado Chapter of American Public Works Association is offering two scholarships for bright young people attending Colorado Schools in the field of Engineering.  The Jim Murray Scholarship is for Jr. Sr. or 5th Civil Engineering Students who are well rounded and active in the community.  This scholarship program will interview the top three students selected and determine a Grand winner for a $2,000 scholarship and the two runner-ups will receive a $1,000 scholarship each. The Urban Watershed Scholarship is for a Soph. or Jr. Civil Engineering Student who is working hard to over come challenges and this scholarship may give them the extra incentive they need to stay with the engineering program. Only one scholarship is offered for $2,000 and the student must be recommended by a faculty member.

To encourage women pursuing careers in transportation at Colorado and Wyoming colleges, Women Transportation Seminar Colorado offers two undergraduate level scholarships: the Sharon D. Banks Scholarship ($1,000) and the undergraduate Louise Moritz Molitoris Leadership Award ($800). Colorado Chapter scholarship winners will then be sponsored by the WTS Chapter for the national undergraduate award of $3,000, and national leadership award of $3,000.
