Future Students

It’s an exciting time to be involved in the biomedical field as new technologies are enabling people to continue their active and healthy lifestyles.  Medicine and health-related topics are among the research areas receiving the most funding from the federal government and industry.  In addition, biomedical engineering is also projected as one of the fastest growing occupations, particularly in the areas of cellular and tissue engineering, rehabilitation, and orthopedic engineering. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the number of bioengineering jobs is expected to grow 31.4% by 2010.  Within Colorado the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment is projecting a 40% increase in the number of required biomedical engineers within the state by 2012.

The SBME is now offering core and specialized advanced graduate bioengineering programs:

  • Master of Engineering (M.E.) degree in Biomedical Engineering,
  • Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Bioengineering,
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Bioengineering.

Students pursuing an advanced degree in biomedical engineering at Colorado State University have the advantage of working with faculty members who are nationally and internationally recognized leaders in their field. With engineering and biomedical and clinical life sciences co-located on the CSU campus, Colorado State is uniquely positioned to offer education and research programs in the biomedical and bioengineering areas.

The curriculum is truly interdisciplinary, involving coursework taught by faculty from the Colleges of Applied Human Sciences, Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

These graduate degree programs enhance the existing Master's of Engineering and undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies Certificate program in biomedical engineering. Over 85 students have completed the biomedical engineering certificate program. With our strong integration of engineering and biological sciences, we continue to draw new students into this rapidly expanding program, the only such program in the state of Colorado.
