The college commencement ceremony individually recognizes bachelor graduates and their achievements. The Graduate School, in a separate ceremony, honors master’s and doctoral graduates. For Graduate School information call (970) 491-6817 or see their website for further information.

Undergraduate Commencement Information

Speaker

M. Andrew (Drew) Crouch
Vice President, Technology
Ball Corporation

Drew Crouch is Vice President, Technology, for Ball Corporation. He identifies and pursues technology-based commercialization opportunities and steers Ball’s manufacturing technology base. In this role, Drew currently leads a data analytics virtual start-up for Ball. He previously served in a number of executive leadership roles for Ball’s Aerospace subsidiary.

Drew has enjoyed an eclectic career spanning: aerospace general management, strategy and business development; technology start-up executive management and venture finance; space mission development and systems engineering; and heavy construction management.

Drew is chairman emeritus and a member of the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering Dean’s Advisory Board. He is also a member of the CSU College of Business Global Leadership Council. Drew served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of Vexcel Corporation. Drew holds a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering and an M.S. in mechanical engineering with an engineering management concentration, both from Colorado State University.

Drew and his wife Kim, a former Ram swimmer, met as graduate students at CSU. Their daughters are students at CSU and CU, Boulder. Drew was privileged to graduate in Moby Arena from Rocky Mountain High School. His immediate family has earned four Bachelor’s degrees and three Master’s degrees from CSU.

Notice of Participation

Graduating seniors, please be sure to meet with your adviser to finalize your degree program requirements. Please RSVP for the Spring 2017 Commencement Ceremony by April 16.

During the week of commencement, you will be required to confirm the pronunciation of your name if your name is difficult to pronounce. Please stop by the Engineering Success Center in the Scott Bioengineering Building.

Student Check-in and Line-up

Check-in/Line-up location is in the Intramural Gym, Moby Complex. You must be checked in and lined up under your department sign no later than 1 hour prior to the start of the ceremony. You will pick up your name card from your department coordinator, and staff members and marshals will line up faculty and students for the processional march to the Moby Arena.

Regalia

STUDENTS

If you are only interested in renting a cap, gown and tassel at this time (no Alumni membership or benefits), please go to Unique Recognition/Herff Jones to place your order. The last day to order your graduation regalia online is April 5, 2017. Orders placed after this date may incur additional fees. Students, except for doctoral candidates, keep their caps and tassels. Rental costs are as follows:

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION GRAD PACK

Order your cap, gown and tassel in advance online via the commencement homepage and click Get Your Cap & Gown. The deadline for ordering student regalia is Wednesday, April 5, 2017.

Students who did not order regalia (cap, gown, and tassel) before the April 5 deadline still have the opportunity to purchase a Grad Pack through the Alumni Association. If you are not interested in ordering a Grad Pack, students may purchase Bachelors regalia for $25.75 and Masters/Doctorate regalia for $48.25 (CASH ONLY) at Cap and Gown Distribution.

FACULTY

Faculty orders are coordinated by each college office. Colleges or departments work directly with the supplier, Unique Recognitions, to place faculty orders by using the electronic order form.

The deadline for ordering faculty regalia is March 24, 2017.

DISTRIBUTION (ALL)

All cap and gown distributions will take place in the Moby C-Wing (Intramural Gym) on the following days:

  • Wednesday, May 10, 2017; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 11, 2017; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 12, 13, and 14, regalia will be available for pick up one hour prior to each graduation in the Moby C-Wing (Intramural Gym) only.

REGALIA RETURN

All returns will be in the Moby C-Wing (Intramural Gym) immediately after the ceremony. Please note that there may be a charge for late returns. Any late returns should be sent directly to:

Diploma Covers

Graduates receive a diploma cover at commencement. The actual diploma will be mailed to you six to eight weeks after commencement. For those unable to attend the ceremonies, diploma covers are available in the Registrar’s Office (at no charge). Diploma covers can be mailed by calling 491-7159; the postage cost is $5.00 per cover for U.S. mailings.

Guests

The ceremony will last approximately 2 hours. Special seating will be available for guests in wheelchairs, those who have difficulty managing stairs, and individuals with hearing impairments. Those with limited mobility should arrive early to obtain reserved seating. Wheelchairs are not available on site. This seating is limited, so please do not plan for large groups to sit in this area. Sign language interpreters will be present at the ceremony. Tickets are not needed for families and guests, nor are the number of invitees limited. 

Photography

Photography will be provided by Grad Images. Graduates and their families can purchase photos directly from the photographer at their website www.gradimages.com.

Parking at Moby Arena

Friday after 4 p.m. and Saturday: FREE PARKING as Saturday is not a regular university business day.

Student Conduct

Please remember that this ceremony is a public event. For this reason we request that you honor the occasion by not adorning your regalia with additional decoration. Your conduct and behavior during the ceremony reflect the dignity and importance of this event for all of us – you as an individual and the University as a whole. You are reminded that it is illegal to bring alcoholic beverages onto campus. Other inappropriate substances or objects will not be allowed anywhere in the facility and such items will be confiscated. Uniformed police officers and faculty marshals will be in attendance as you enter the assembly area and throughout the ceremony. In accordance with commencement policies, you may be requested to open robes, purses, etc. for inspection as you enter.

Prohibited items not allowed in commencement and commissioning venues include the following:

  1. Alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs carried in by patrons.
  2. Glass bottles or metal cans.
  3. Ice chests or large coolers.
  4. Bota bags or wine skins.
  5. Sticks, bats or clubs, including any attachments.
  6. Fireworks, firearms or other weapons, or simulated weapons.
  7. Bullhorns or other artificial noisemakers.
  8. Framed backpacks.
  9. Animals other than certified guide dogs for the disabled.
