engineering class, but significant advancements in research. In

we begin another year of education and research, I also invite
you to learn about the College of Engineering's strategic plan. This is a living document that sets the standard and
objectives for our college. Our faculty and staff are committed
to this plan and committed to our mission to engineer global
solutions that contribute to the quality of life.

and friends, like you, are invaluable to CSU. I hope you will
continue your connection with our college. Several upcoming events
provide opportunities to reconnect, network, and learn more about

CSU
Awarded $19 Million to Build Climate Models
The National Science Foundation awarded Colorado State University
and its partners a $19 million Science and Technology Center to
build climate models that will more accurately depict cloud processes
and improve climate and weather forecasting for scientists around

Engineering
Researchers Create World's Smallest
Tabletop Microscope
CSU engineering researchers, in collaboration with University
of California, Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory,
have created the world's highest spatial resolution extreme ultraviolet
(EUV) tabletop microscope that can see objects more than 1,000
times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. Find out more

| CSU's
Extraordinary Research Growth
Colorado State University
- with specialties in fields such as bioterrorism and nanotechnology
- has become one of the fastest-growing research universities
in the country. CSU research funding hit a record $267.4 million
in fiscal 2006, up 10 percent from the previous year, according

Annual
Homecoming Events for Alumni
Homecoming week is right around the corner, and every year engineering
alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago reunite for two special
College of Engineering events.
Festivities begin
with the COE 50+ Year Homecoming Reunion Dinner on Thursday,
October 5 at the Fort Collins Hilton, beginning at 6
p.m. This is an elegant, social evening filled with memories and
recognition.
Homecoming week continues
with the COE 50+ Year Homecoming Reunion Breakfast on Friday,
October 6 at 9 a.m. at the College of Engineering Internet
Cafe. Alumni will enjoy refreshments and conversation while learning
about several research projects the college is undertaking. Tours
will be conducted.

Academic
Village - Student Housing of the Future
The Academic Village is a state-of-the-art living learning environment
that will integrate classroom and experiential learning into the
living area with programming space, seminar and meeting rooms,
multi-media classrooms, living space for faculty members, and
more. It will be the first housing unit of its kind on campus,
specifically for engineer and honor students. Visit the Academic

| Nominations
Being Sought for COE's 2007 Distinguished
Alumni Awards
The College of Engineering recognizes former students whose accomplishments
in their careers, service to industry and the public, and/or volunteer
efforts have brought honor to that individual, the College of
Engineering, and to Colorado State University.
Each year, the College of Engineering honors one outstanding alumnus
from each of our five academic departments, as well as one alum
who graduated with an engineering science degree and one college-wide
honoree. In addition, this year the college will be honoring a
graduate of the last decade. Awards will be presented at our annual
awards dinner on Saturday, March 31.
Nominate
an individual for a 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award. Award nominations
are being accepted through November 30, 2006.
