Researchers at the NOAA Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere at Colorado State University (CIRA) have advanced scientists' ability to see nighttime satellite images of Earth to a level of detail never before possible. For the first time, NASA, NOAA and CIRA scientists unveiled new nighttime lights capability of a NASA/NOAA satellite.

The Tropical Meteorology Project at Colorado State University recently released its initial outlook for the 2013 Atlantic basin hurricane season. The team will release the first forecast with predictions for the number of named storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes expected for the Atlantic basin in April.
