Spring Semester 2007, College of Engineering

Workshops and Descriptions

Culture and You

This interactive session is designed to give participants an understanding about their culture and that of others. The goal is to broaden awareness and understanding of the impact cultural aspects have on our daily lives.

Communicating Across Cultures

This interactive session will enhance participants’ knowledge regarding their personal communication preferences as well as cultural-based communication patterns that may impact effective communication with others who might have different culturally based patterns of communication.

Gender & the Workforce

This interactive session will give participants a basic understanding of how learned gender differences play out in the workplace and challenge our assumptions about gender in our lives. Participants will also gain awareness of the impact sexual harassment has in the workplace and strategies for challenging climates that allow sexual harassment to thrive.

Power and Privilege

This interactive session will provide participants with an understanding of the United States system of privilege and how this system impacts each individual in all walks of life. Participants will gain an awareness of the silent ways that privilege can effect relationships with others as well as an understanding of how the effects of this system can be minimized.

Communication: What’s your style?

This interactive session is designed to give participants an understanding of the difference and effects of communication styles. Emphasis will be on differentiating between assertive and passive and/or aggressive communication patterns and how to effectively incorporate more assertive communication into daily life.
