International Opportunities
The profession of engineering is being transformed by the globalization of the world economy. Many engineering companies have become global enterprises. Engineers need different skills than what were required just five years ago to be successful in this emerging environment. U.S. based engineers will need to engage in engineering design, planning, and maintenance activities with partners across the globe. This requires greater understanding and sensitivity to multi-cultural problems.
The College of Engineering at Colorado State University currently offers several programs and is developing new programs to prepare students to have long-term careers in a global engineering profession. For example, a new degree concentration in International Engineering is available that results in students receiving dual degrees in the Liberal Arts and Engineering Science, including a minor in a second language. Our students also participate in traditional Study Abroad programs. And recently our students have been engaged in International Service and field experience projects through groups such as Engineers Without Borders.
Future plans include the offering of an International Engineering certificate program that will be available for students in all of the traditional engineering degree programs. We are also actively pursuing International Internship opportunities for our students. To be leaders in International Engineering education, Colorado State will continue to develop and offer innovative academic experiences for its graduates.
