Introduction to the CSU IAC
Combined energy efficiency, pollution prevention,
and productivity improvement assessments are offered by the Colorado
State University Industrial Assessment Center (CSU IAC) to qualified
small and medium-size manufacturers to significantly improve the
industrial efficiency of small to medium sized manufacturing companies,
increasing their ability to effectively compete in the national
and global marketplace.
CSU's Mechanical Engineering department has provided
this industrial outreach since 1984 through the DOE-sponsored Energy
Analysis and Diagnostic Center (EADC). Chartered to provide manufacturers
with assistance in energy conservation, the EADC served 320 plants
in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska until its mission was expanded
to include pollution prevention opportunities in 1994 when DOE renamed
the program the Industrial Assessment Center. Partly because of
the success of the EADC, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
awarded the Mechanical Engineering Department at CSU one of three
national Waste Minimization Assessment Centers (WMAC) in 1988. The
CSU WMAC served 40 manufacturers during the program's three-year
duration and designated CSU as a leader in providing manufacturing
outreach in waste minimization and pollution prevention. In 1996,
the mission of the IAC program was expanded again to include analysis
and recommendation of opportunities for productivity improvement.
The CSU IAC Director is Dr. Douglas C. Hittle, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and the Assistant Director is Michael Kostrzewa,
P.E., a Research Associate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
